The best way to meet benefitial people?

I don't really have any inspiring relatives. Very interested in journalism, arts, creative writing and literature-- I really want to meet new people in my area that are experienced in these subjects. I'm about to go to college, and I want to have some guidance from writers, authors, journalists, and so on.

The best way to meet benefitial people?
Chances are, you'll find plenty of like minded folks in college. Most colleges have student groups dedicated to all sorts of creative endevours. Back in the day (gods, I'm old) my university had a student newspaper, a student magazine, a student literary journal, a creative writing club, etc. These are all pretty common.

Get thee to a library and check out the bulletin boards. Chances are you will find people looking to form or join reader or writer groups. Also your local bookstore will probably have weekly events sponsored by groups in your area
Reply:Go or call newspapers, advertising agencies, and colleges and ask for appointments to talk to people. Most people will tell you what ever you want to know if you only ask in a polite way and do it when they have time to talk to you.
Reply:Do some research and see if your college has any writing/reading clubs and groups. There are probably magazines or newspapers that you could get involved with too. If it's a big school with an active journalism or english department, they might have guest lectures that are open to the public too. My school had tons of those. :D
Reply:People with similar interest and financial status, gravitate to each other, due to similar life style, hobbies, etc. To achieve your goal, you must be seen in the same places as those you want to meet.
Reply:Scope out your community; where you live, or where you'll be attending college. Look in bookstores, shops, coffeehouses, etc. for postings about literary, artistic and otherwise creative groups or gatherings. Sometimes there's a fee, but it's a great way to meet new people with common interests. Also, many times these activities are free. The upside of free groups and activities is: sometimes the coolest people you'll ever meet are totally broke! :)

Also, the internet is an invaluable tool...but you seem to have already picked up on that. (Also, beneficial has no T. ;)

Good luck to you!
