Im 15, I do not like any of the guys in my year, because most of them are completely immature. How do I meet people outside of school, if I see someone I like,like at a mall, and I dont know them, how am I supposed to introduce myself and not look like an idiot?

Wait til you see one you might to know doing something he likes, maybe a video game in the mall or a comic book or a CD and just ask him a question. But the question is the key. It can't be a yes or no question. If he's looking at a Spiderman comic, question might be "what do you think of Silver Surfer".
If he's looking at CDs, "what do you think of theh Eagles comeback album"? Worst you get is "it sucks". but then you get to do "the whole album or just that second cut". give them something to talk about. something they can feel expert at. they're way more insecure than you are.

Reply:Best place for meeting people are at social event or gathering. Sure you can meet people at a mall, etc too. But, at the age of 15 I don't think you'll meet someone in a mall (or some social events) that easily who's older than you. You are in a public place and under age. It won't be easy. Be very careful of people you don't know. You are still at prey age.

What are some good ways to meet people???
I am 17, and kind of shy but if you know me you know how crazy and outgoing i can be. I work on the weekends so i cant ever really go out with my friends to meet new people and stuff.and during the week i have school and homework.
I want to be able to meet new people, and guys, and i want to boost my confidence by doing new things with new people.but im not really sure how.since i cant even really go anywhere.please let me know everyone.

There are no beaches.... but the waterfront down in DC is very nice, as in clubs most are 21 and up, but in Adams Morgan there are some that are 18+ im 19 and have no problem getting into some in A. How do I meet new people after a break up?
I broke up with my live in boyfriend/fiance a week ago. He has already found a group of guys to move in with and lots of other fun activities. I, on the other hand, am moving back in with my folks to save money. I really am at a loss at what to do with myself. I work full time so am busy during the day. I don't know what kind of activities women around 25 do in the evenings. I was thinking of going back to school (hooray tuition reimbursement) but also want some other ways to meet people my age. Any ideas?

They kept me busy and I needed to be busy right after a breakup. We even used to take vacations together. Once we went on a cruise and that was fabulous! We would also go to bars, museums, concerts, parks, you name it. If it was a fun activity we did it together. We got bored once and joined a bowling league just for kicks. Well, I met a long time boyfriend there, believe it or not!
Back then we didn't have the internet, though. These days I am always meeting people online. I join mailing lists and chat groups centering around my interests. I usually gravitate towards interests that would attract nice, decent people. I have made some great friends that way and have expanded my social circle greatly, too. I have a great BF now but I am still single and still get together with the friends I have made online.
If you go back to school that will take up a lot of your time and then you will probably be asking us how to make more time for your social life, LOL. Seriously, in the evening you can read, take up a new hobby or get into renting DVDs if you don't know what else to do with yourself. Learn to like being alone, too. I joined a gym and bike ride and that has helped to fill up my evenings as well.

I do think beyond such things, but often find that people who claim to be beyond such limited thinking as nationalism, religion, or monitory status still seem to think that they are owed something, that one political group the corrupt one, or that all nations are equal in ethics.
I don't think you can find the person you want because I don't think you understand what you are really asking for. Most people cannot handle a person with real ethics.
My wife and I know that from long experience. Our friends are few.

I'm shy and really haven't had any friends for about a year and a half (apart from my husband) becuase I got pregnant and had to quit my job. I didn't have any friends at that job really but I had tons at the job before that we just never kept in touch and it would be wierd to talk to them now because none of them have kids I am sure. I am a stay at home mom and I'm really shy because it has been so long since I have had interaction with lots of people. I can't get a job because it would not work for our situation. Just dont do it. When you have interest in someone and would like to talk to them, just do it...then if they respond to you, great! if not, forget it about it and move on.
In the meantime, I like chatting, emailing and meeting people so hit me up if you like...I have a son who will be 3 in a week so maybe we can mommy talk too :-)

Go down on the street (with your son maybe) then talk to some peoples, say them hello or ask em how much time is it, even if you don't know em. How does a 27-year old meet people without drinking?
I used to party a lot, and was actually a die-hard alcoholic for years, at a very young age. I went through a lot (meditation, celibacy, etc), to make it so that i could drink moderately and never be a drunk again- that is going fine, but I am hypoglycemic and am changing the way that I eat and cutting out alcohol and caffeine. I feel great- The only problem is, everyone my age drinks. Especially the kinds of people I try to meet(artists and writers like myself). How can I meet people without drinking?

It was easier to meet people when we were kids....we befriended the other kid and we became best friends..... but as adults, are we more picky, judgemental, scared? Why do you think its so hard to meet people and still have a lasting relationship (and not just an acquaintance)?

I was with my boyfriend for 6yrs and i know we've done the right thing splitting up but i feel so alone. I've never really had a big group of friends other than those my ex and i had together. I have a problem getting to know people. I am in my final year of university and I still don't know anyone from my course.
I had a job but i was fired because I didn't speak to anyone.
I normally have nothing to say in a to people in a social situation.
How do I make friends, meet women etc...?

Reply:I know this sounds mad but try it and I bet it works for you. Practice smiling. In the privacy of your own home, do some smiling exercises. Smile as hard as you can until all the muscles in your face are aching. Do this for a week. Once you have done this try it out by saying for example to a female shop assistant that you like their hair (I know this sounds nuts) and watch the response you get. You will not regret it. Once you are past this barrier things will get easier and easier. The smiling exersises will change your face in a way that is more approachable and friendly. Hope you like the results, I dont like to see anybody lonely.

They are always looking for people, and you are on the phone so the other person will not be able to see you. Some of the people you talk to will be really rude or put down the phone, but don't be put off. Its OK. Use the time as practice. The thing we fear about speaking to other people is rejection, so I recommend that you face that head on, and phone people up while they are having their dinner and talk about double glazing or alarms or whatever (you won't have to worry about what to say they will give you a script), and I can guarantee that you will get rejection - loads of it, and you will realize that its not such a bad thing!! When you can laugh at the idiots who put the phone down on you, you are ready to make the next step and talk to real people about things that interest you - not double glazing!!!! Reply:I am antisocial myself. I went through two years in college before I talked to anyone. I woke up though. Just introduce yourself and ask if they want to study sometime. I have made a few good friends this way. As far as women go I can catch them on the bus, in a cab, at the store, or at the mall. I don't fraternize with female co-workers or classmates anymore. If you hit it and something goes wrong then you have to see them every day. Just open up and say "hi" to people. You too can blossom into a social butterfly ahh.

I have experienced the same. Once you are single the opposite sex tends to be more careful before hitting on you. Once in a relationship you have a lot more people flirting with you (because you are less likely to misunderstand maybe).
Now that you are by yourself, go out and meet new people. Join a club. Take up a new hobby. Take an evening class. Go to venues where you haven't been before. Don't be afraid to speak to people, not just girls your own age but people of both sexes and all ages.

I am looking for someone to date, or just be friends with.. any suggestions on a good place to meet decent people who are not complete jerks?

There are jerks everywhere. You can not completely avoid them. You just have to find a way to meet people that is comfortable for you.

How do you meet japanese people to practice and share language or become friends, when there is none?
i can find them in Voice chats, but i'd like to meet and talk to them face to face. However i find some challenges in California.
1. Most of them are either students or tourists, DON"T HAVE TIME for you becaue they are busy in schools or touring, if they are students they spent more time with foreigner classmates.
2. I never see any japanese that LIVE in usa.. at least not in my city.. sure they visit or are students but they don't live here to stay and dont' have time
3. They usually think y'ure not American if you're a minority and look minority and have accent(like me), and they are not really interested. also they have bunch of racist ideas against nonwhites stemming out of the influences from Movies, and stuff
4.they rather hang wih outgoing americans cause they want to experience things..not with us quiet people that don't have exciting lives.
5..the only place i used to see them was in bus or bus terminal.but due to injuries and depreesion you don't take bus anymore

1. You say you live in Cali? Dude, Cali and Hawaii are the most concentrated place where japanese go. So, i find it difficult to accept that you never see any japanese that live in your city. The reason why they hang out with foreigner classmates is because they are in the same shoe (living in someone else's countries). They probably are not confident enough to speak english (please try to understand them). Instead of waiting for them to approach you, why don't you try to approach them?
2. Take it easy, bro. Why don't you do research? I live in LA.. so, i have a LOT of Japanese friends. Try hang out at the Japanese community place. Let say.. ummm i dunno... Little Tokyo, maybe? :)
3. NO! They're not racist. You just misunderstood them. I am not japanese but I do have a lot of Japanese friends. Most of them says that they are not good at english and affraid to accidentally insult americans. If you say they are racist, I would have to put you on the spot. Don't be an ignoramus. Think about their cultures.
(that's what i hate about the people in LA.. -i'm sorry- they expect foreigners to approach them and be nice to them, but they never make an effort to be nice to foreigners. and when they are in a conversation, it is so easy for them to alienate the foreigners and just speaking to other people. Suddenly, we are racist for not hanging out with you guys, helloooo?!).
4. They don't hang out with outgoing americans. They do hang out with outgoing people. That's that! Nobody (even Americans) like to hang out with a boring person regardless of their race and nationality.

I like to talk to French-speaking people, but I don't really have that problem because I live in Washington, and being so close to Canada, there are lots of French-speaking people around. There are book clubs, Taost masters for people who want to learn about public speaking, water color classes, golf lessons, tai chi, whatever. Find something you like to do, and be open and talk to the people in your class or group. Obviously you have something in common. Usually there is a community college or adult ed that offers classes. Also YMCA and Parks dept.
If you're talking dating, search for a local group. check our the churches, they usually have singles groups. I met my husband on match.com. My girlfriend asked all of her friends if they knew a nice guy and one of them introduced her to her husband. My dad took a class in woodworking and met his girlfriend.

I have been living in a new town for 2 1/2 years. For over 2 years I worked from home (marketing) and spent much of my time either working or raising my 5 kids. I am now on an "indefinite leave" which I needed badly (depression really set in because of my lack of interaction with ANY adults other than my husband.) I have friends (high school) that i hang out with, but I want to meet NEW people. I'm tired of waiting for it to happen. I wish I can just find friends.
Approaching people is hard no matter how outgoing you are. You never know what to say...it's just so awkward. I don't have a problem talking to anyone, but it's just that when I talk to someone it's only briefly, it's not like we exchange numbers and such. We just talk..that's just about it.
Oh and another thing, is it okay to go to functions alone...like a bar or a party, etc? thanks so much for the help!

SOMER is on the right track. Find events, clubs, etc. in your area that you might enjoy and attend. For instance, if you really like photography (or even if you just want to learn about it) and there's a local photography club, attend one of their meetings.
Talk to people but don't be too pushy. Be friendly and make it known through your body language that you're open for new friends.
You're going to find people that you like and have things in common with when you're doing things that you like to do. If you don't like bars but you go there to meet people, odds are you may not enjoy the people there. Go places and do things that you think are fun and interesting, that's where all of your potential friends are.
Good luck and most of all, remember to enjoy all of your new experiences! Don't just focus on the goal of meeting people, remember to live in the moment and enjoy what you're doing, regardless of whether or not you make any new friends.

im incredibly shy and always have been... all my friends and all the people i used to be friends with have groups of friends.. or at least a few people they can call up and do stuff.. i have probably one friend i can sometimes call up and like two i can hangout with once in a blue moon, how can i meet other people... keeping in mind im a senior in highschool. and am not very talkative.. everyone already has their "groups" i just want a few people i can count on.. how do i get them?

I am very similar. I used to move around a lot and I'm always shy at first, so it's really hard to make friends when you're quiet, and on top of that, everyone already has their "clique."
-Maybe you can hang out with your one friend and ask him or her to bring some of their friends along. Maybe you will get along with them.
-You could always join a group at school and meet people who have the same interests as you. (I personally hated joining groups and sports but alot of people love it!)
-Another thing you can do is get a job where you know a lot of people your age work there. A lot of people meet their best friends at their job.

World travelers are out there now traveling.Turn off your computer, pack a bag and go and join them.Evil Ned is absolutely correct about hostels.You can often find them there.There are also some very good, active travelers message boards, with good knowledgeable travel information but they are for serious travelers who would rather their websites not be known to the general public and I would be reluctant to share that info here as these boards are already polluted with so many pretenders it is near the point of being almost useless for obtaining any kind of credible information.I wouldn't want to see that happen on any of the other sites I use. Conversely,there are a handful of posters here who have "really" traveled but unfortunately they don't post that often.On the other hand there are an inordinate number of posters who have never been beyond the gringo trail yet offer information from wikipedia as credible proof they have traveled somewhere other than an all-inclusive hotel in Cancun or Cabo. Should I mention all the 13 year old school kids that have moved from "homework help" to the "travel" boards to get the 'point grubbing' adults to do their homework assignments for them while they play video games or text their peeps...actually I can't blame the kids,it's the adults that that are at fault. In the country I live everybody is not alone, is just me that at my 31 years is looking for friendship...I just came back from studying my master´s and I broke up with my couple, I was fired and now work independent...I look for people in internet but all the people that I could meet here do not take it seriously...damn it!!!

You are lucky that you are only 31 and have plenty of time to find friends or a relationships. It might help to turn to God and ask him to provide for you in good time. If you are ever lonely feel free to write and I will respond and try to be a comfort to you. I have a B.A. in Humanities from a Jesuit college.
